The Timetable
Many of our young people are not ready, or well enough to access learning. As a result, we have an educational offer that meets the needs of each young person.
Stabilisation (Students may be on this pathway for up to 5 days.)
This is an opportunity for education staff to get to know the young person; find out what they like / don’t like, what they are good at and what might feel challenging.
Key features:
Enjoyable activities linked to your interests. Gradual introduction to the classroom, when you feel ready.
Mindful colouring.
Lego.
Basic arts and craft.
Games & puzzles.
Listening to music.
Engagement (Students may be on this pathway for between 3 and 10 days)
At this stage, we want to continue to build positive relationships, and we would like the young person to get to know more members of the education team.
We would also like to move towards then starting some curriculum activities, when we feel they are ready.
There are two stages to this:
Establishing Engagement:
Key features:
Gradual introduction to all members of our education team.
Identifying their interests to match, where possible, activities that they will enjoy.
When appropriate, encourage them to come to the classroom for some sessions, such as Enrichment, Arts Award, Talk About and PSHE.
The young person will also be encouraged to join wider ward groups run by the MDT.
Developing Engagement:
Key features:
The young person will be encouraged to attend the classroom, to access at least one area of the curriculum and we will work together to decide on the length of the sessions.
Curriculum
At this stage we feel that the young person is well enough and ready to access some regular school work.
We will be working within these three areas.
- Initial curriculum offer.
- Full engagement.
- Discharge, reintegration and transition planning.
Key features:
Initial Curriculum offer:
We will assess you in English, Maths and Science.
You will be offered our full core timetable, including less preferred subjects with support.
You will perhaps complete work that your school has asked us to cover.
Full engagement:
You will be offered a full school timetable, and this will include PSHE, Talk About, and Art.
You will be entered for any external assessments or exams where appropriate.
We will consistently review your timetable.
Discharge / reintegration planning:
Your next steps and pathways are identified, and applications made where appropriate.
Reintegration plans will be agreed and online meetings with settings and schools are put into place. Visits with settings will also be arranged, where appropriate.
