Information for Students

If you are admitted to The Beacon you will have the opportunity to attend the education setting once deemed well enough to do so. As part of the ward programme it is expected that you will engage with the education team as part of your recovery.

At the beginning of your admission, staff from the education team will contact your school or college to request some information, including any work you might be missing and to keep them updated on your progress.

During education sessions you may get the opportunity to complete work from your school or college, or the education team here at The Beacon may set you some tasks/activities that are more appropriate to your current situation.

There are weekly ward rounds at which the education team will provide feedback about your education progress and every 4-6 weeks there is a wider meeting called a CPA to which your own school or college may attend. At this meeting your progress might be discussed along with any plans for your return to school or college upon discharge.

“I was in year 11 when I was admitted to the ward. One of my main issues was anxiety amount my exams because of the amount of time I’d been off school due to my mental health. The education team on the ward did an incredible job of supporting me to sort out my revision and prioritise so that I was able to take my exams and have confidence in myself. The school environment was nurturing and based around me and what I wanted to do. I couldn’t have asked for better teachers.”
