Pupil Attainment

“Staff accurately assess what pupils do and do not know on pupils’ first admission to the school. They then use this to design a personalised, broad, and balanced curriculum, carefully. Over time, pupils make striking progress through the curriculum. This progress is also seen in their engagement in learning, self-esteem, communication and interaction.(OFSTED – October 2023)

“Rigorous evaluation and use of external data is firmly embedded to raise aspirations for individual student outcomes. Teachers set challenging targets that consider the students’ health, wellbeing and starting points but also reflect student potential.” (Challenge Partners QA Review – April 2023)

KEY STAGE 4 RESULTS

The Children’s Hospital School are incredibly proud of their GCSE results and the hard work, dedication and resilience that our students have shown despite their medical needs and personal daily challenges. Our Year 11 students have missed a significant amount of their education through illness.

DfE Headline Measures

Progress 8

Our progress 8 measure is -1.39. Students at the Children’s Hospital School usually take fewer qualifications than in other schools so are unable to achieve the number of points needed to meet targets set from KS2 assessments. However we are pleased with the progress that is made in individual subjects.

E-Baccalaureate (% Entered)

0% were entered for the E-Baccalaureate. We have a broad curriculum but do not teach languages or humanities so our students do not fulfil the criteria for the E-Baccalaureate.

Destinations

From our Leavers in 2021 69% have stayed in education, employment and training. As we are a hospital school for young people with medical needs, some students have enduring health difficulties.

Attainment in English and mathematics

4% of students achieved grade 5 and above in both English and Mathematics.

Attainment 8

Our attainment 8 score is 27.5. We set a challenging curriculum and personalised programmes for all our students. Students have start dates all through years 10 and 11 and most do not take 8 qualifications which limits the attainment 8 score.

EBacc Average Point Score

Our EBacc APS is 2.3. Our curriculum is different to the E-Baccalaureate which impacts this measure.

Entries into triple science

All our students took double award science in 2025.

Entries into languages

No students were entered for languages.
