Mainstream schools have labs in which to teach science. However, in a hospital space is not readily available, so our teachers have come up with creative alternatives.

Science teacher Dr Elizabeth Hope was in her element setting up crime scenes on the wards of Leicester Royal Infirmary for our CSI Science Week.

Students’ science lessons started with learning how to take and analyse fingerprints before moving on to identifying mystery powders, analysing dental marks and measuring footprints to estimate a suspect’s height.

Students worked all week to solve the Case of the Bare-footed Burglar. Thankfully, by Friday the files had been stamped ‘CASE CLOSED’.
